St. Louis: The Gateway to the West

Rich history and culture combined with art in a bustling town city make St. Louis, Missouri, a lively and dynamic metropolis. Come visit the Gateway Arch, see animals at the St. Louis Zoo or take a boat ride along the Mississippi River. Discover lovely old buildings and museums in the historic district. Savor local favourites- St. Louis-style barbecue, toasted ravioli, and gooey butter cake. The largest city of Missouri, it is also a key cultural and economic centre in the region: located along the banks of the Mississippi River, it has a very diverse population and many attractions for every taste. Arts, history, and festivals mark the city, branding it so that every interested traveller has to come here at least once in his life and feel the authenticity of the American heart.

History

In 1764, St. Louis was founded by two French fur traders namely Pierre Laclรจde and Auguste Chouteau. Due to the location of the fur traders on the Mississippi, the port city became very busy. It became an important hub for various things; commercial as well as transportation purposes. The westward expansion of the United States was played a very important role by it because it was a place from where explorers and pioneers would set out. Events such as the 1904 Worldโ€™s Fair cemented St. Louis as a leader in this countryโ€™s cultural and industrial strides.

Geographical Landscape

The eastern region of Missouri, along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, defines St. Louis. This state forms an ideal combination of urban and natural sceneries, parks, rivers, and abundant green space, making it a very scenic backdrop for the region. Its summers are usually very hot and humid, while winter is extremely cold. Many seasonal activities and festivals happen all through the year.

Best Time to Visit

The best seasons to visit are spring, from March to May, and fall, from September to November. Flowers bloom in the spring; it is cool and nice. Fall brings tremendous foliage and comfortable weather. Summers are very hot and humid, although most outdoor events take place then too. The winter sees low temperatures, but a walk downtown with all its festivity and decoration at Christmas makes this winter wonderland.
