History

The city was established in 1849 as a military outpost on the banks of the Trinity River as an important facilitor in the westward expansion of the United States. As a center for cattle drives, Fort Worth became a cowboy town. The stockyards and the cattle industry identified Fort Worth as a place in Texas history by the late 19th century. Today, leftovers of this legacy are visible in the form of historical districts and attractions.

Fort Worth boasts relatively varied landscapes, including rolling hills, vast plains, and numerous parks.
