Beach Camping: Stay salty

If you want to bask in some โ€˜vitamin seaโ€™ then beach camping is perfect for your outdoor get away. Apart from exploring new horizons, surfing through changing tides and feeling the cool breeze of sea flowing through your body, you can enjoy paragliding, trekking or just swimming while taking the added advantage of beach camping at night.

Save yourself from the hassle of bookings by decoding beach camping with #outdoorkeeda. It is always preferred to stay in prebuilt camps with well-organized facilities but if you are a true adventure lover who wants to soak in all the elements of nature, we suggest you to setup your own tent on a suitable location. Also some of the camping places which are promoted as near to the beach are miles away, so always pre-check before booking an organized camp.

Beach Camping

Be prepared with a little research

With some research, you can make your beach camping trip a memorable one with a lifetime experience for your friends and family. Firstly, camping is not allowed on every beach in India, so check out a list of all the beaches where camping is allowed and then choose a beach suitable to you.

Secondly, you will have to check whether camping is allowed on that beach during the season when you want to visit it. Some beaches are closed for camping during the cyclone season. Contact the locals to make sure if itโ€™s okay to camp on the beach you have in mind, at the time when you are going.

Always check the weather reports of the region where you are going for beach camping. Be sure to check the forecast and do not take a risk if the weather suggest of violent storms and strong winds, as it will produce waves big enough to wash away your tent.

In addition to this always make sure that you are not camping below the high tide line. If you are not a pro, it is better to take help from the locals in identifying a safe spot for setting up your tent. Keep in mind that the tide fluctuation is strongly influenced by the full and new moons.

After ensuring the weather and tides are in your favor, now look for a suitable spot on the beach. It is always good to set up your tent under a tree because the sand is more firm to hold the tent and you will be saved from the tent heating up from the scorching sun.

Beach Camping

Choosing your Gear

  • Tent:It is always advisable to use a lightweight tent with metal rods for better protection while beach camping. Being waterproof and double layered will be an added advantage. The double layering will keep the environment inside the tent cool and the outer layer of the tent helps keep humid air at bay.You will thoroughly enjoy the breeze if the tent has a lot of mesh on it for ample ventilation.
  • Sleeping bag:ย There is a special property of sand- it cools down as fast as it heats up. Due to this special feature, the night temperature of a beach can drop down to a great level. It is advisable to choose a comfy sleeping bag to help you remain cozy at night while beach camping. If the beach you are visiting has high temperature even at night then you can use a foam sheet or just the inner lining of your sleeping bag to sleep at night.
  • Camping shoes:ย Invest in good beach camping shoes that do not sag in sand and provide a firm grip.
  • Good quality bag pack
  • Layered clothing: To keep you warm at night
  • Ziploc bags:ย To keep your mobiles, keys, cards etc. dry and sand free.
  • Sunscreen
  • Towels
  • Bathing suits
  • Camping cookware
  • Drinking water:ย you will be surrounded by it but wonโ€™t be able to drink from it..
  • Flashlights
  • Battery bank
  • Wide beach hat
  • Garbage bags:ย Do not litter and make the beach dirty. Always carry garbage bags to put all the waste stuff.

Beach Camping
