Chail: In the lap of nature

Himachal Pradesh is the state with a great reservoir of abundant beauty, snow, adventure, thrill and serpentine rivers immersing from the dearth of Himalayas. The land of Himalayas has hidden treasure in every remotest nook and corner of its land.

Chail is one of the wonders in the paradise of Himachal Pradesh vying to charm you with its pristine natural beauty and enigmatic charisma. One step into this quiet hamlet and you witness the majesty of nature.

Location of Chail

The summer retreat of Maharaja of Patiala is nested in the foothills of Himalayan hills. The mesmerising hill station is often called a ‘hiker’s paradise. Located just 63 km from Shimla, Chail is spread across three hillocks Rajgarh, Pandewa and SadhTiba, over an area of 72 acres.

Located at the mesmerising height of 2250 m above sea level, it is a heaven for tourists to escape mind numbing restlessness of city life.

Best time to visit Chail

The summer months are most pleasant here and perfect for sight seeing. A lot of tourists come here during summers, to avoid the scorching heat of summers in the Northern plain. Autumn is also a good time to explore the mesmerising town.

Tourists should avoid visiting here during winters and monsoon as it hinders the normal life of the villagers and the rain brings along the risk of landslide.

So the best months to head towards Chail is April to June for sight seeing and October to March for witnessing the snowfall.

  • By rail : The Kalka railhead is the nearest railway station, located at a distance of 81 km. Taxi and buses ply for Chail from here.
