Kinnaur

Kinnaur : Into the wonderland

Let us take you to the land of Himalayas. Think about the serpentine rivers, majestic hills, swaying forests, vibrant fauna, ancient architecture, scented valleys, charming people and incredible culture Does it allure your heart? If yes, then Himachal Pradesh is your dream destination. Sitting in the lap of mighty Himalayas is one magical town named Kinnaur. Cuddled in the mighty Himalayas, experiencing the cacophony and captivating beauty of this adventurous land is simply enchanting.

Location of Kinnaur

The adorable valley is located in the south-eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. The calm ambience of the town is soothing to tourists of every age. Known for its serenity and snow-clad mountain ranges, Kinnaur is located 235 km away from Shimla. Tourist flock here to visit the pious Kinner Kailash. It is believed to be the home to Lord Shiva and the Shivaling rock. The place has three of world’s grandest mountain ranges the Zanskar, the Greater Himalaya, and the Dhauladhar.

Best time to visit Kinnaur

The ravishing town is the land of fairy tales and fables with the sight of spectacular orchards, lush vineyards snow clad lofty peaks, cold desert and barren mountains. The snow clad Himalayan peaks give Kinnaur alpine climate. The city is actually quite cold here as it experiences temperature below -5 degrees and heavy snowfall during winters. Everything apart from summer is dry, harsh and chilly. The town experiences no monsoon as it lies in the dry region of the Great Himalayas.

The summer months are the most pleasant time to visit so plan your trip from the month of May to October.

How to reach Kinnaur?

Are you ready to savour the delight of mesmerising valleys and tranquil mountains amidst the rich verdure? So let us see how can we reach the adorable town.

  • By air : The town doesn’t have its own airport. The nearest airport is Jubbarhatti Airport in Shimla located 274 km away. Tourists can avail private taxis and cabs to reach Kinnaur.
  • By rail : The nearest railhead to Kinnaur is in Shimla at a distance of about 244 km. You can opt for a private taxi or bus to reach your desired destination.
  • By road : There is immense pleasure in exploring the valleys of astounding Himalayas via road. The town has a well-developed road network which connects it to important cities like Shimla, Rampur, Lahul valley and Spiti valley among others. Avail the state-run or private-run bus services or even a private taxi or cab to reach Kinnaur.

Places to visit in Kinnaur

ReckongPeo

The spectacular beauty of this land also called the ‘Land of Gods’ is eternally beautiful and serene. The place is famous for being the adobe of gods and apple orchards. The town of Kinnauri people has an aura of its own. The town reflects the vibrant culture and beauty of deodars, apple orchards and pine trees. Located at an altitude of 2290 m above sea level. ReckongPeo is a must visit.

Nako

This cute little hamlet is situated at an altitude of 3600 m and wao is the only word which escapes the mouth of traveller who comes here. This splendid destination is known as ‘Land of Fairytales’ and is located between Kinnaur and Spiti Valley, therefore it shares a perfect blend of the culture of both lands.
