alwar

This beautiful city is nestled among the rugged rocks of the Aravalli range:the charming city of Alwar, which blends tradition with magnificent natural beauty. Its landscapes and monuments combine breathtaking majesty of Alwar that entices every visitor into its rich cultural heritage and silent surroundings. This city is one of the premier tourist destinations; it perfectly provides an ideal holidaying retreat under its lovely water bodies, abundant wildlife, and historic sites.

One of the best-known events in Alwar is Matsya Festival, an activity that keeps abreast the strong cultural and social heritage of this region. This festival, held every year, attracts localites as well as tourists at both national and international levels. Matsya Festival portrays traditions and prosperity of this region, coming alive in a colorful display of customs and festivities that unite the community.

The festival will be conducted for two days consecutively, November 25-26, 2024. It includes a cultural event presentation with colorful processions and artistic exhibitions. The thrill of this festival lies in the adventure sports it offers to visitors-hot balloon rides, parasailing, zorbing, etc. Alwar Darshan, or local sightseeing, presents an opportunity for studying the city culture and lifestyle; the Dharohar, an archaeology exhibition, with its wide historical significance, is another attraction.

The festival is no less, without this impressive presence of music and dance, for when you have performances like a Shehnai-waden, flute recital by greats, you cannot help but be enthralled. Even the competition and contests with traditional folk dances and songs manage to put across the festive spirits. Teer Andazi, or archery with locally made bows and arrows at local-level – is one of the favorite sporting events of the locals as well as tourists visiting the place.

The Matsya Festival has a great history attached to it. Its name is derived from the Sanskrit word for “fish,” an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Indeed, the myth of Matsya says that He was in this guise, the fish incarnation of Lord Vishnu, rescued the first man, Manu, from the great flood. This ancient region was a part of a kingdom called Matsya Mahajanapada, created by Indo-Aryan clans during the Vedic period, and Viratnagari, or Bairat, was its capital.

Rich history, natural beauty, and the energetic Matsya Festival have placed Alwar on the must-visit-place list in Rajasthan. It happens to be one of the opportunities by which one can enjoy the local culture and beautiful landscape of the region.
