Ujjain, a city located in Madhya Pradesh, is famous for being one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism and is home to the beloved Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. 1.Mahakaleshwar Temple

Mahakaleshwar temple, the heart of Ujjain, is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. This temple has a strong spiritual energy and devotees from all over India come here to worship Lord Mahadev. If you want to have once in a lifetime experience, then attend Bhasma Aarti in the early morning.

2.Ram Ghat

A quiet and calm ghat near the Shipra River, where you can watch the evening aarti and feel relax. You can also enjoy a boat ride that costs around Rs.50 to 100.

3.Kal Bhairav Temple

Kal Bhairav Temple, the most famous temple that performs a special ritual. People worship God, by offering liquor.

4.Sandipani Ashram

As per old stories, Lord Krishna studied here with Balarama and Sudama. It’s a calm and beautiful place that feels very old and peaceful. You can walk around, go for evening walks, enjoy the quiet and calm environment, and feel the history all around you. It’s a nice spot to relax and think, and an escape from reality.

5.Temple of Harsiddhi

The 51 Shaktipeeths include Harsiddhi Temple. The temple seems quite peaceful and has beautiful lighting. Many people come here for a sense of calm and to give prayers. It feels a sense of closeness towards the powerful spiritual energy.

6. Mandir Bade Ganeshji Ka

In the temple, there is a large idol of Lord Ganesha. It is a beautiful spot where you can feel happy and relaxed. A lot of devotees come here to pray and often, believe to start their day with the positive energy of temple.

7. Kirti Mandir Vikram

Kirti Mandir Vikram, is an ancient museum which has scientific devices, ancient coins, and scriptures honouring King Vikramaditya.

1.Kaliadeh Palace

Kaliadesh palace, is one of the oldest palaces that sits by the Shipra River. It is a calm and beautiful place to visit. You can find old carvings, green gardens, and a lot of open space to relax. It’s a great place for an evening walk. The sunsets look truly magical and the photos perfect for your Instagram shoot.

2.Gadkalika Temple

 In Gadkalika Temple, there is a believe that Kalidasa, the famous poet, once came here. It is a small temple but gives a peaceful and lovely feeling. Its simpleness is the charm. 

3.Bhukhi Mata Temple

This temple is on top of a hill, and you have to climb stairs to get there. But once you reach the top, the view of Ujjain is amazing.
It’s a good place for both prayer and enjoying the scenery.

You can’t explore Ujjain without tasting its yummy local food –

  • Poha Jalebi – The classic breakfast combination of soft-spicy poha with sweet, crispy jalebi to start your day.
  • Kachori Sabzi – The hot, flaky kachoris with spicy and tangy potato curry is a must to try.
  • Daal Bafla – A super comforting Malwa version of dal baati, one of the best.
  • Gulab Jamun & Rabdi – After every spicy, there is a need for sweetness in your day, this combination of Gulab Jamun and thick rabdi is mouth – watering.

Tower Chowk

This area buzzes with food stalls in the evening. You can find chaat, samosas, bhutte ka kees, and more here.

Freeganj Area

In freeganj area, try the popular places like –

  • Meghdoot Hotel Restaurant (great thalis)
  • Bhola Guru Ke Kachori

Gopal Mandir Area

A perfect area for trying rabdi, malpua, and other sweets. Most of the items cost between Rs.30 to Rs.100.

Best Time to Visit Ujjain

The best time to visit Ujjain is between October and March. The weather is pleasant and perfect for enjoying the places and temple visits. You can go in summers as well, if you want to melt like kulfi in the sun (Do not go in summers, just kidding – otherwise you will melt like kulfi in reality).
