Kanatal literally means ‘dry lake’ and the tiny hamlet is located at a height of 8,500 feet and its beauty speaks for itself. But this place holds an important position in Hindu mythology. The place was named Kanatal to commemorate a lake by the same name. Presently, the lake has lost its existence as it has dried up. But according to popular belief, Lord Shiva brought the dead body of Devi Sati to this lake from Haridwar.
