Binsar: the land of the leopard

Historically, it was the summer capital of the kings of the Chand dynasty. It has now transformed into a 45sqkm sanctuary protecting a number of flora and faunas. The Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is the proud home to more than 200 distinctive species of birds, leopards and other animals.

Situated at an elevation of 900m and stretching upto 3000m, Binsarfalls in the Kumaon region and is located 35kms away from Almora. A particular spot here called the ‘Zero point’ will give you the pleasure of viewing Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath and Shivling peaks. They will appear to be so close, that you could just take a leap and land on top of them.

Best season to visit


The winter stays from October till February. October also being the best month to visit Binsar. The winter temperature ranges between 00- 240C.



The maximum summer temperature of Binsar goes up to 300C and the minimum goes down to 150C. If you are looking forward to excursion or want to experience the raw beauty of this picturesque land, summer is the best time to be here.


The monsoon temperature rotates from 220-290C and stays from July till September. It is advised to check the weather forecast before making your bookings in this season because there are prominent chances of landslides and heavy rains.
