Nevis Highwire Bungee

In Queenstown, New Zealand, the Nevis Highwire is the highest bungee jump in the country! You leap from a platform 134 meters (440 feet) above the Nevis River valley, falling super fast for 8 seconds. Run by AJ Hackett, the platform hangs between mountains on strong cables, with a glass floor to see the river below. For OutdoorKeeda, bungee jumping at Nevis Highwire is scary but super exciting and a big adventure. This guide uses very simple words for our adventure series. It talks about the jump, what to bring, how to jump, and how to visit. Let’s jump with #OutdoorKeeda!

Why Bungee Jump at Nevis Highwire?

Nevis Highwire is the third highest bungee jump in the world, open since 1999. It’s a famous spot in Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital, where lots of people jump every year. Here’s why it’s so cool:

  • Really High Jump: At 134 meters, you fall fast (over 128 km/h) for 8 seconds, seeing the Nevis River and mountains zoom toward you.
  • Amazing Place: The platform is in a pretty valley, 40 minutes from Queenstown, with a glass floor to watch other jumpers.
  • Safe and Fun: AJ Hackett, who started bungee jumping, runs it with strong cords and nice staff to keep you safe.
  • Big Bragging: You get a t-shirt, certificate, and video to show you did New Zealand’s highest jump!

It’s great for brave people who love thrills, but not for those scared of heights!

What is Bungee Jumping at Nevis Highwire?

Bungee jumping at Nevis Highwire means leaping off a platform 134 meters above the Nevis River. You free-fall for 8 seconds, then the cord pulls you back up, bouncing a few times. It’s open every day from 8:40 AM to 2:40 PM (check times at bungy.co.nz). The jump costs ₹12000 (275 NZD), and photos or videos cost extra (₹4000/90 NZD). You must be 13+, weigh 35–127 kg (77–280 lbs), and sign a paper. Kids under 15 need a parent’s permission.

What Do You Need to Jump?

To bungee jump at Nevis Highwire, bring these:

  • Clothes: Wear comfy clothes like a t-shirt and shorts. Don’t bring loose stuff like hats or scarves (leave them in lockers, ₹50/1 NZD). You get a free bungee t-shirt.
  • Safety: You get a harness and bungee cord. Tell staff if you have health problems like heart issues or pregnancy (no jumping if pregnant).
  • Extras: Bring water and a small bag. No cameras on the jump, but you can buy a GoPro video (₹4000). Wear closed shoes, not sandals.
  • Tickets: A jump costs ₹12000 (275 NZD). Book online at bungy.co.nz or viator.com for deals (₹11000/250 NZD). No refunds if you get scared! Spectators pay ₹2500 (50 NZD) to watch.

Check bungy.co.nz or call 0800 286 4958 for weather, as wind or rain can stop jumps.

Best Ways to Jump

Here’s how to enjoy the bungee jump:

  • Morning Jump (Easy, 30 min): Jump from 8:40–10 AM for fewer people and clear views of the valley. It’s less scary in the day.
  • Midday Jump (Fun, 30 min): Jump from 11 AM–1 PM when it’s lively, good for photos with mountains.
  • Afternoon Jump (Exciting, 30 min): Jump from 2–2:40 PM for a wild feel, but book early as spots go fast.
  • Combo Jump (Fun, 4 hours): Pay ₹16000 (360 NZD) for the bungee and Nevis Swing (300-meter arc) for extra fun.

Book 24 hours early online. The trip takes 4 hours, including a 40-minute 4WD ride from Queenstown.

How to Bungee Jump

Here are simple jumping tips:

  • Get Ready: Staff check your weight, put on your harness, and tell you about safety. You ride a cable car to the platform.
  • Stand at Edge: Walk to the edge with staff. They count “3, 2, 1.” Look forward, not down.
  • Jump Big: Jump forward with arms out like a bird. Don’t stop, or you’ll feel more scared!
  • After Fall: Pull a strap to sit upright after bouncing. Staff pull you back to the platform with a winch.
  • Stay Safe: Listen to staff, don’t jump if sick, and tell them about health problems.

Staff are friendly and help you feel brave!

How to Get to Nevis Highwire

Nevis Highwire is 40 minutes from Queenstown, on private land in Gibbston Valley:
