Synopsis
Kashmir's higher reaches, such as Gulmarg, were blanketed in snow, while the plains were drenched in heavy rain, forcing the cancellation of a significant cricket match. Following the initial disturbances, a generally dry spell is anticipated over the next ten days, with occasional light showers in certain areas.
Such reports will surely entice those eager to see the snow fall. The latest reports suggest on Sunday, a light dusting of snow fell on Kashmir's higher altitudes, while it rained heavily in the plains, specifically at Gulmarg, the world-famous ski resort.
This snowfall indicates that the region is to face a colder period. The Gulmarg ski resort in the Baramulla district received two to three inches of snow in its Phase II area. Moderate snowfall was also reported at Razdan Pass in Gurez near the Line of Control.
The rainfall in the valley's plains led to disturbances in daily life as well as caused a postponement of the match at Legends League Cricket 2024 scheduled for Saturday night. It was for the first time in nearly three decades when Kashmir would witness an international cricket event.
